YourDNA Future Genetic Counselor Scholarship

Degree-seeking students in the field of genetic counseling can apply for our $2,000 scholarship to help cover their tuition costs. Applications are now open for Fall 2020. **Update: The winner of our 2019 scholarship was announced here.**

YourDNA Program Background

YourDNA's scholarship program is a unique offering for students enrolling in their first or second year of a sanctioned Genetic Counselor degree program.

Access to genetic services is a growing concern as technological advances, coupled with an increase in demand and clear need, continues to present a challenge to the industry.

Genetic counselors play an invaluable role in the future of genomic science and seek to help, encourage and support future genetic counselors.

The Future Genetic Counselor Scholarship is funded by YourDNA and is supported by our advisors and partners across academia and industry.

All applicants will be encouraged to know that this program is administered by licensed genetic counselors.

Scholarship Application and Guidelines

The Future Genetic Counselor Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship. It will be awarded on September 1, 2020. Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time graduate degree program in the field of genetic counseling in a program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC).

We ask that applying students complete a 1,000-1,500 word essay answering the prompt:

“Given the bottlenecks in the current healthcare system, how might changes be structured to increase access to genetic counseling services?”

Applicants must complete the form below and submit their essay using the “Upload” button. Alternatively, applicants can email their submission and information to jazmin@yourdna.com.

A panel of judges that includes licensed genetic counselors will review the applications and choose a winner, to be announced on September 1, 2020.
All applications must be received no later than August 31, 2020 for the Fall 2020 scholarship, The winner will receive a one-time scholarship check of $2,000 to be used for educational expenses.

Official rules

No purchase necessary. Responses will not be sold but may be shared with any third parties as indicated below. The Future Genetic Counselor Scholarship is open to any student who will be enrolled at an accredited full-time certification program for Genetic Counseling for Fall Semester 2020. All other entries will be disqualified. Each student may only submit one entry. If it is determined that a participant has entered with more than one identity, all of the participant’s submissions will be disqualified. Application period starts on June 1st, 2020 at 8 a.m. PST.

Winner will be notified via email on September 1st. Scholarship money will be awarded no later than September 15th. All portions of the application must be answered, attaching all requested documents. Failure to fully answer the essay question or provide all documentation could deem an application ineligible. Once submitted, No confirmation email will be sent to the applicant. Any requests from applicants asking for verification of submission will not be granted. Subsequently, no direct notification will be sent to the applicants who were not chosen as a winner of the scholarship. All entries must be received no later than August 31st, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. PST to be eligible for the contest.

Prizes are non-transferable. All prizes will be awarded by Aspect Health Inc, the parent of YourDNA and YourDNA.com. Competition is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
Winners will be solely responsible for any federal, state or local taxes. Winners and their parents/legal guardians will be required to execute an affidavit of originality, eligibility and compliance with rules, a release of liability and grant of publication rights within 10 days of the date specified in the notification. Failure to do so will result in the prize being awarded to the finalist with the next highest votes. Winners must provide a valid street address to which YourDNA can mail the winners their scholarship check, a publicity release, an affidavit of eligibility and complete a W-9 for tax purposes in order to qualify for receipt of the scholarship award in the amount of $2,000.

Competition is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
