Brenna is originally from Southaven, Mississippi. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology with a concentration in Molecular Biology along with minors in Psychology and Chemistry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Upon graduation, Brenna was a recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship to Estonia. While there, Brenna worked at the Estonian Biobank performing Genome Wide Association Studies on Metabolic Syndrome as well as participating in the the development of the genomic feedback initiative for biobank participants.
After returning to the United States, she began the Genetic Counseling Training Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During her time in the program she completed rotations at UAB as well as the Geisinger Health System (Pennsylvania). She also completed a research project focusing on the role of self-efficacy on genetic counselors likelihood to participate in variant interpretation.
